GIF compressor for Discord
A reaction should be easy to send. The Discord GIF target aims below 8 MB while keeping the original dimensions and frame timing. It is a sharing target, not a claim about your account’s upload limit.
Making a custom emoji? Choose the 256 KB target. You will still need the right dimensions: the Discord GIF resizer makes a 128 × 128 square crop and checks file size too.

Smaller GIFs for Slack and other upload limits
The Slack emoji target aims below 128 KB. It only changes file size. Slack also recommends a square image and allows up to 50 frames, so start with an animation that meets those requirements.
For a different upload form, use its stated limit. Enter 1 and choose MB for a 1 MB maximum, or enter 500 and choose KB for 500 KB. The result shows exactly how large the file is, even when the target cannot be met.
What changes when you compress a GIF?
The tool first optimizes the GIF data. If it needs more room, it tries fewer colours. A flat illustration may shrink well; a detailed screen recording can be harder to compress without visible changes.
Your dimensions, frames and timing stay the same. If processing would make the file bigger, you get the original back with a clear note. No inflated savings, and no missing frames.
Need fewer pixels instead? Use the animated GIF resizer for a custom width, percentage or platform preset. Reducing dimensions can save more space than reducing colours alone.
GIF compression questions
How do I compress a GIF to a specific file size?
Enter your maximum size and choose KB or MB. For 2 MB, enter 2 and select MB. Common sizes are available below the input. The compressor tries smaller colour palettes and shows the actual output size. It warns you if the file is still too large; a target is not a guarantee.
Can I compress a GIF without losing quality?
Sometimes rearranging the GIF data saves space without changing the image. If that is not enough to meet your target, the tool reduces colours. That can affect gradients and fine detail. Play the preview and compare before downloading.
Will my GIF still move after compression?
Yes. The compressor keeps every frame, its timing and the loop setting. It also keeps the original width, height and transparent areas. It does not crop or shorten the animation.
What size should a GIF be for Discord?
The 8 MB target is a convenient sharing size, not Discord’s maximum upload size. For custom emoji, aim below 256 KB and prepare a 128 × 128 image. Compression changes file size only; use the GIF resizer if you also need square dimensions.
Why is my compressed GIF still too large?
A long or detailed animation may not fit your target at its current dimensions. The tool stops after trying smaller palettes rather than silently dropping frames. Resize it to fewer pixels, or shorten the original in an editor, then try again.
Are my GIFs uploaded to a server?
No. Processing happens in your browser on your device. The page downloads the processing code the first time you use it, but your GIFs are not sent to BGClear. No account or watermark is involved.
Can I compress a batch of GIFs on my phone?
You can add up to 10 GIFs, with a combined size of 50 MB and a 25 MB limit per file. They run one at a time. Large animations need more memory; try one file at a time on a phone. Files that exceed the processing limits are rejected with an explanation.
