GIF resizer for Discord
In this Discord GIF resizer, the Discord emoji preset makes a 128 × 128 GIF and aims for less than 256 KB. It takes a square crop from the centre, so check that faces, text and the rest of your subject are still in view.
Sharing a reaction in chat? The Discord GIF preset aims for 8 MB while keeping the original dimensions. That is a convenient smaller target, not Discord’s current maximum: its free attachment limit is 20 MB as of September 2026. Account limits can vary.
Resize GIFs for Twitch emotes
The Twitch preset creates three square GIFs: 112 × 112, 56 × 56 and 28 × 28. Download each size separately for manual upload. The 512 KB target is Twitch’s per-file limit for manual upload. Auto-resize mode instead accepts one square GIF up to 1 MB.
Twitch allows up to 60 frames. This tool keeps every frame, so it warns you if your original is longer. Twitch also has rules about flashing and content; resizing alone does not check those.
Make a GIF for Slack emoji
Small details disappear in a chat line. Start with a clear subject, then use the Slack preset for a 128 × 128 centre crop with a target below 128 KB.
Slack recommends square images under 128 KB and allows GIFs with up to 50 frames. If yours has more, shorten the original first. The result panel will flag it.
Pixels and file size are different things.
Width and height control how much room a GIF takes on screen. KB and MB measure the file itself. A tiny GIF with hundreds of frames can still be a big download.
Only need a smaller file? The GIF compressor starts with a file-size target and keeps your original dimensions.
Set your dimensions first. If you also need to meet an upload limit, add a file-size target. BGClear tries fewer colours and shows the actual result. If it is still too large, try smaller dimensions or a shorter animation. No frames are silently removed.
Your file stays with you.
The resizing code runs in your browser. There is no image upload and no account to create. Processing starts when you click Resize, and you can cancel it at any point.
Working with a still photo instead? Use the background remover to make a transparent PNG. It is a separate tool; this resizer accepts GIF files.
A few things you might want to know
Does resizing a GIF keep the animation?
Yes. The resizer keeps the frames, their timing and the loop setting. Transparent areas stay transparent. Square presets crop the edges to make an emote; custom sizing keeps the whole image when proportions are locked.
Can I resize a GIF to a specific size in KB or MB?
Enter a file-size target in KB: 500 for 500 KB, or 2048 for 2 MB. The tool tries smaller colour palettes at your chosen dimensions. Some GIFs will not fit without becoming smaller or shorter. You will see a warning if the output is still above your target.
Will resizing reduce the quality?
Fewer pixels mean less detail. A file-size target may also reduce colours, which can make gradients look patchy. Play the preview before downloading. Leave the target empty if you only want to change dimensions.
Can I resize several GIFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 10 GIFs, with a combined size of 50 MB. Each file can be up to 25 MB. Files are resized one at a time to keep memory use down, and each result has its own download link. There is no daily limit.
Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?
No. GIF resizing happens on your device using a browser-based WebAssembly tool. The page downloads the processing code when you first resize a GIF; your image files are not sent to BGClear.
Can I use this on my phone?
Use a current version of Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge with WebAssembly support. Large or long animations can use a lot of memory, especially on phones. If a GIF is too demanding, the tool asks you to try a smaller or shorter file.
Can I make a GIF smaller without changing its dimensions?
Yes. Choose Custom size, select Percentage, and enter 100%. Add a file-size target. The tool tries fewer colours while keeping the original dimensions and frame timing. It cannot guarantee that every animation will fit.
